Escaping to Peanut Island

Ah, there's nothing quite like the feeling of waking up to the soft rustle of palm leaves and the distant sound of waves crashing against the shore. Welcome to Peanut Island, a little slice of heaven off the coast of Riviera Beach, Florida. If you're anything like me and crave a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, then primitive camping at Peanut Island is just what the doctor ordered—a laid-back adventure filled with relaxation, exploration, and endless fun.

The weekend at Peanut Island begins with an early morning ferry ride, with the ferry service running every 25 minutes from 10 am to 5 pm. We opt for the first ride of the day, eager to make the most of the tranquil morning hours. And at just $25 per adult and $12 per child for overnight campers, it's an affordable getaway that won't break the bank.

As the ferry glides across the sparkling waters, we unload at the shuttle dock and make our way to one of the seventeen tropically landscaped campsites. We waste no time in setting up camp so that we can immerse ourselves in the beauty of my surroundings.

With the logistics out of the way, it's time to dive headfirst into the island's treasures. Whether it's snorkeling amidst the sealife, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, or simply lounging on the beach with a good book, there's no shortage of ways to while away the hours on Peanut Island. And for the adrenaline junkies among us, there's always the option of taking a leap off the bridge into the inviting depths below—a thrill that never fails to get the heart racing.

As evening falls, we usually find ourselves drawn to the communal bonfire pit, where fellow campers gather to indulge in the sweet, sticky goodness of S'mores. We like to swap stories and laughter over card games and drinks, savoring the simple pleasures of life under the open sky. And as we finally retire to our tents for the night, the gentle rhythm of the ocean serves as a soothing lullaby.

The next morning dawns bright and clear, beckoning us to another day of adventure. Armed with a propane griddle and a pack of Jimmy Dean Breakfast sandwiches, we whip up a hearty breakfast. From snorkeling adventures to leisurely strolls along the shoreline, there's no shortage of ways to make the most of our time on Peanut Island before we head home the next day.
